File of Life

The File of Life envelope is a medical information packet designed to provide emergency personnel with necessary medical data to begin immediate
treatment. This very simple concept has saved thousands of lives and we are proud to offer this service to seniors in our community.

Senior Fitness Classes

Keep active and stay young at heart with senior group fitness classes at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Improve muscle tone, strength, coordination and build cardio fitness in the following classes:

Tai Chi:
Work on balance and strengthening. Great for all ages! Try one class FREE!
    Dates/Times:
Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30pm
    Cost: $65 per month, seniors (contact instructor for senior rate) - pay instructor directly.

Good Shepherd Medical Center - Wellness Center (behind the hospital)

Tai Chi for Better Balance:
This is a community-evaluated evidence based introductory Tai Chi program created to reduce falls.  Class was designed for seniors but is beneficial for all and will introduce basic movement concepts and a simplified 8 movement form.  Contact instructor for dates, times and location:

Exercise Band Class: Increase your strength and flexibility. Perfect for seniors!
    Dates/Times:
   Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday, 9:30am-10:00am
    Cost:  $15 for 10 weeks, $5 per resistance band
    Location:  GS Community Wellness Center

Accomplishments

  • Sponsored two Senior Health Fair open to the public (2011)
  • Assists with Motorized Wheelchair Safety Campaign
  • Assists Hermiston Fire and EMS with “Remember When” fall and safety prevention for seniors
  • Worked with Kathy Thomas, GSMC to start a Hermiston SHIBA Office (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance)
  • Presentations to retirement homes, nursing facilities, and senior centers
  • Made available computers for use at the Hermiston Senior Center
  • Developing ramp project for disabled seniors
  • Worked with Safe Communities to educate grandparents on safe car seat installation for grandchildren
